The province's exports totaled 86.49 billion yuan in the period, up 18.1 percent year on year, and its imports grew 24.9 percent to 35.98 billion yuan, according to the Nanchang customs.

The statistics showed that private enterprises in Jiangxi reported a 33.8 percent year-on-year growth in foreign trade from January to April. Meanwhile, the electronic information industry drove the growth of the province's foreign trade by 19.5 percent during the period.

In the first four months, the trade volume of Jiangxi with the ASEAN, the United States and the European Union rose 17.4 percent, 28.7 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively. The province's trade with countries along the Belt and Road also rose 21.2 percent to 38.04 billion yuan year on year.

With the continued global spread of COVID-19 weighing on the world economy and trade, the province's foreign trade is still facing unprecedented risks and challenges, said Huang Qifeng, director of statistics and analysis department of Nanchang customs.

"The customs office will continue to help foreign trade companies with more targeted measures including the further improvements of customs clearance efficiency," Huang said.
